2024-25 Donruss Optic Basketball elevates the regular Donruss release with a chrome makeover. It’s a set with widespread appeal, delivering lots of shiny content and a massive checklist. The end result is something that is fun to collect while also offering a chance at some coveted and valuable cards.
Live virtually all chromium sets, one of the core pieces is the rainbow. All standard base cards have more than 70 parallels. Of these, almost 30 are numbered to 25 or fewer copies. It’s a daunting amount made even more challenging due to the fact that there are so many different box and pack types, many of which have their own assortment of exclusives.
With the connection to Donruss comes the Rated Rookies, a little something extra for the rookie cards rooted in the brand’s history and tradition.
For autograph collectors, hobby boxes have one. With the rookie class not being the strongest compared to recent years, some may find themselves looking to the veteran and retired signers. The 30-card set is a mix of top-tier stars and key rookies. LeBron James, Stephen Curry and Luka Doncic run alongside Stephon Castle and Zaccharie Risacher.
In football, Downtown debuts in Donruss and then gets an additional release in Optic. That’s not the case in basketball. These are the only Downtowns in a 2024-25 NA product.

Limited to just 10 cards, these hobby-exclusives take players’ monikers and offer up a literal interpretation. The result, Anthony “Ant-Man” Edwards is looking like an extra in Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, hanging with some ants.

Phazes is another SSP set that’s exclusive to retail (which includes hobby blasters and hobby mega boxes). These 30 cards all present players with four different photos.
For some, the idea is to capture motion with each shot proceeding to the next. These are almost like a small clip of animation. This isn’t the case for all Phazes, though. Some cards are simply four photos of a player with maybe some motion or maybe a chance to showcase four different jerseys.
